Which massage to choose

Dynamic Tape vs kinesio tape

Both tapes are elastic, stick to the skin and let you move. The difference is in how they stretch and how strongly they pull back. That decides what each one is good for, and why I usually choose Dynamic Tape after a massage.

Dynamic Tape vs kinesio tape

The main difference

Kinesio tape stretches mainly along its length. It is light and gentle, and it is often used to give the skin and muscles a sense of support and to remind the body of a position.

Dynamic Tape stretches in all directions, both lengthwise and across, and it is much more elastic. When stretched, it pulls back with a strong recoil. Because of this it can take some of the load from tired or overloaded muscles and still let you move freely, for example while running, lifting or turning your shoulder.

How I use it

I apply Dynamic Tape at the end of a session, after the massage, when the muscles have released. It can help the effect of the massage last longer and support the area while you go back to training or daily life. Typical areas are the lower back, shoulders, knees, calves and the back of the thigh.

Tape is not a replacement for rest or for seeing a doctor or physiotherapist after an injury. It is a tool that can help your body move with less strain.

Skin care and how long it stays on

  • How long: tape usually stays on for a few days. I will tell you when to take it off for your situation.
  • Before the session: clean, dry skin without cream or oil helps the tape stick. Long body hair may need to be trimmed.
  • While wearing it: you can move, train and shower normally. Press down any edge that starts to lift.
  • If the skin itches, burns or gets red: remove the tape straight away. Some people have sensitive skin, so tell me if you have reacted to tape or plasters before.

Which one should you book?

  • You have a race, long ride or heavy training week ahead: massage with Dynamic Tape to support the muscles you load most. See massage for runners.
  • Your neck and upper back get tired from sitting: Dynamic Tape after a massage can support your posture during the work day. See neck and shoulder pain.
  • You only want a light reminder for posture or a sensitive area: kinesio tape within a sport massage may be enough.
  • You have very sensitive skin: tell me before we tape, and we can start with a small area.

Can I shower and train with the tape on?

Yes. Both tapes are made to be worn during normal daily life, including showers and training. After a shower, pat the tape dry with a towel instead of rubbing it, and avoid using a hair dryer on it. Avoid creams or oils on the taped area, because they loosen the glue.

How do I take the tape off without irritating the skin?

Remove it slowly, in the direction of hair growth, while pressing the skin down next to the tape with your other hand. Wetting it with oil or warm water first makes it easier. Do not rip it off quickly, especially on sensitive skin.

Can I get taping without a massage?

Dynamic Tape is an additional service, so I apply it at the end of a massage session. That way I first know how the muscles feel and how you move, and the tape is placed with that in mind.
